Anapana & Vipassana Meditation

Anapana — Inhale / Exhale – Simple witnessing the breath. Watching the breath at the nostril. Once thought breaks, bring it back naturally to watch the breath.

Anapana one of the many Sadhana techniques popular at the time when Gautam Buddha attained Nirvana. This technique was used by Gautam Buddha to achieve higher state of samadhi /purity before he discovered vipassana (again, an old meditation technique which got lost) to attain Nirvana. Well, coming to the technique of meditation, all you need to do is to look at your normal breath as it is while maintaining a calm state of mind. You need not to control your breathe as you do in pranayama. With all your attention focus on the openings of nose and accept your breath as it is. If it is passing through left nostril or right nostril or both the nostrils. And where does the air touches when you inhale and exhale. Observe the sensation that you feel, itching, coldness, warmness etc but do not react to eat. Just accept that you are having a particular sensation but as everything passes by, this will also pass. This makes your mind in your control, increase the concentration level and you will observe that you remain equanimous most of the time.
